This was a very interesting interview where we addressed as managers and business owners who have not a formal artificial intelligence (AI) education are applying this technology to solve pressing problems in different industries and business functions.

Legalmation is a startup that was able to conquer fortune 500 and premier law firms’ customers in the USA within less than 2 years from launch.

How they did it?

They designed a product that liberates lawyers from many low value tasks that are very time consuming, such as researching and reviewing documentation, filling in court motions etc..

Their journey was mixed. Initially they wanted and hoped to automate all the workflow for their firm.
This is a typical beginner mistake, whoever does not understand the technology at a level to create requirements for the technologists falls into this category.

Eventually with the help of Neil and other advisers thee break down their work flow into pieces and identified the requirements for each block of the work flow.

This helped the technologists to design the proper algorithms and flows. However, the lawyers work continued into the training of thee algorithms, that was a crucial millstone in the project.

They also took an active role in measuring the quality of the output and improving the product over time as they released additional features and took over clients with increasingly more difficult work flows.

This process holds for all managers involved with AI

a) Break down the work flow in unit tasks amenable to current AI capabilities
b) Participate in the training of the algorithms
c) Set the system goals and analyze performances
d) Overview the continuing evolution of the initial technology.
